Confessions of an Organized Homemaker by Deniece Schofield: Book Cover

Before I review any more children’s books, I thought I would let you know where I found my information on how to organize the extensive collection (over 30 years worth) that I have.  Coming from a less than organized family, and marrying into a very organized family gave me room for improvement.  A wise sister-in-law saw my need and gave me her copy of the book, “Confessions of an Organized Homemaker” by Denise Schofield.

This book, an easy read, has helped me get organized.  The author gives advice on how to control your clutter with inexpensive, doable ideas.  My favorite idea, organizing the children’s book closet.  Schofield suggests using rectangular plastic bins.  Sort the books however it suits you, lean them in so you can read their front cover from the front of the bin as you leaf through them.  Place them on shelves in a closet, or on a bookcase.

My children would pull these bins off the shelves, find a corner in the family room and read books by themselves for hours. When done, just put books in the bin and return to the shelf.  This kept the books contained, where as before they were always off the shelves and on the floor.

Denise Schofield has many other good ideas, check out the jigsaw puzzle organization!   Though I have learned a few things through the years, this book was a great springboard for my more organized life!
