Last night, around 10:50, I was standing outside my local movie theater in a line of 100’s of teenage girls with their mothers. It was about 10 degrees outside, and I was wearing boots, a sweatshirt, my winter coat, 2 pairs of gloves, and a hat. I, along with thousands of girls around the country all waited in lines for hours in order to get a glimpse of the worshipped Twilight movie. I’ve read some reviews and the movie has gotten mixed results. Personally I enjoyed the movie. Here are the main questions I asked myself after seeing the movie in order to decide how I felt about it.
1. Would I wait in line again, knowing what I know now?
Absolutely. I’ve been anticipating this movie since word got out that production had begun. Obviously I didn’t expect the movie to be exactly how I envisioned the book. It is someone else’s interpretation of the events, and I loved seeing the characters come to life in film.
2. Was the money and wait worth it?
For the most part it was. There were some parts of the book that I wished could have been in the movie, and some parts I would have changed within the movie, but overall I enjoyed the movie.
3. Would I have enjoyed the movie, if I had never read the book?
This question is harder to answer. I have read the books, so I do not know how much of the plot someone who had not read the books could have gotten out the movie. Due to time restrictions and time constraints, a lot of background information was excluded from the movie. You miss a lot of information if you’ve never read the book, and I strongly advise that if you haven’t, you read the book first.
I liked the movie, but obviously there are parts I would have changed. Their were also parts of the movie that I really enjoyed. If you haven’t seen the movie, and don’t want anything spoiled for you, and advise you to stop reading this review now.
Things I would have changed . . .
1. Bella’s Narration – I know that the book is narrated by Bella, and that without it we would miss some insight, but I felt that when she narrated the mood of the movie was ruined. I would have liked the director to find some sort of way to show what was felt rather than just telling us.
2. Special Effects – WOW! How corny were the effects? When Edward took of with Bella running, their was now way his feet were actually touching the ground, and it looked ridiculous. Or the way he just ran up the tree. It reminded me somewhat of the way Spiderman just walked up walls. And I don’t remember any of the Cullens being able to fly in the books, but they seemed to do a lot of floating in midair.
3. Edwards anger – I know that he doesn’t want to be attracted to Bella and that he tries to scare her away, but the movie took it to the extreme. He seemed to never really show his love for Bella, even towards the end when he had resigned himself to protecting Bella. I would have liked him to have shown more compassion and love towards Bella, rather than the animosity and anger.
Things I liked about the movie . . .
1. The actors – I loved Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson a lot. I felt like they complimented eachother very well. I think Kristen fit the role very well. She’s cute, but she looked average enough to be Bella. And Robert was an excellent Edward. He looked the role. He looked AMAZING! I also loved Charlie. He was perfect as Bella’s dad, and I felt so bad for him when Bella ran out on him.
2. The coverage of the plot – Yes, they left a lot of stuff out from the books, but thats because the movie would have to be like 5 hours long in order to satisfy everyone. But what they included in the movie was the improtant events, and the ones that really showed Bella’s and Edward’s relationship.
Overall this was a good movie. Of course it didn’t live up to the standards of the novel, but what movie ever does. I liked the movie, and hopefully I’ll be able to see it again very soon. The cast was well put together. Overall I was happy with the time and money that I put into seeing the movie, and am looking forward to the next movies to come out.
