RECIPE: Raisin Nut Nibbles

logo

This cookie recipe has been a favorite of my husbands for as long as he can remember.  The recipe originally came from his mother.  She saw it on the back of a sugar sack, cut it out and pasted it onto a 3 x 5 card.  When we got married she gave the card to me.  How could a new bride not have the favorite cookie recipe of her husband?  One must cook to impress you know!!

Years have gone by and the recipe card is demolished.  With some effort I have newly acquired the favorite recipe and would like to share this tasty, old fashioned raisin cookie with you.

RAISIN NUT NIBBLES

2 cups raisins

1 cup water

1) Mix above ingredients in saucepan boil for 5 minutes, then let cool.

2)  Pour cooled raisin mixture in a mixing bowl and add:

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup shortening

2 cups sugar

1t. vanilla

3 eggs

3)  Mix all ingredients together, then add:

4 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 cup chopped nuts(optional, but really add to the taste)

4)  Mix all ingredients, drop by teaspoonful on baking sheet.  bake at 350 for 10 – 12 minutes.

Now that I have the recipe once again, I plan to make these as surprise for Valentines Day.  Nothing says” I love you”, more than your favorite foods!
